About the artist...
Manchester, UK born artist, Sarah Winkler has lived in a diverse array of countries, from the landscapes of Malawi, Africa, to the dramatic coastline near Big Sur, to the rugged terrains of the Rocky Mountains. These experiences in some of the world’s most stunning geological environments have profoundly influenced her artistic vision. Now based in Colorado, Winkler’s studio is perched at an altitude of 9,000 feet, where she paints her signature contemporary mountainscapes. Her unique approach blends her formal education in Studio Art and Earth Science from William Paterson University, using crushed minerals and natural pigments to create textured, layered works that evoke the majesty and mystery of the natural world. Winkler’s art is characterized by its collage aesthetic, where she meticulously assembles fragments of the landscape to form cohesive and striking compositions. Her innovative techniques have earned her a place in prestigious collections, including the Cosmopolitan Hotel of Las Vegas, Imagery Winery in California, Maker’s Mark Whiskey in Kentucky, The Royal Caribbean in Spain and Norway and over 100 other prominent collections worldwide. Her work is not only visually captivating but also rich in geological and environmental significance, reflecting her deep connection to the earth and its processes. Represented by galleries in both the US and Canada, Winkler has participated in numerous high-profile exhibitions, including those at the Birger Sandzén Memorial gallery, Bakersfield Museum of Art and Art Aspen. Her talent and unique perspective have also led to her involvement in the US Department of State's Art in Embassies program, where her work is displayed in diplomatic settings around the world, promoting cultural exchange through art. Recognized as one of the top rising female painters by ARTSY, Winkler’s work continues to garner critical acclaim. In addition to her gallery exhibitions, Winkler’s art has been featured in a variety of publications, further cementing her reputation as a leading contemporary artist. She has also been spotlighted in the documentary 'Moment' by Making Art Films, which delves into her creative process and the inspiration behind her work. As she continues to explore the intersection of art and earth science, Sarah Winkler remains a dynamic force in the art world, captivating audiences with her ability to transform geological elements into breathtaking works of art.
